As you can see I’ve got the website a little more finished. Spurious and horrible use of an image on the front of the blog. Just got to find where in the folder the background image is and rename it so it doesn’t load. CSS stylesheet for the main site starting to get there. A few images up. More text than there was a little while ago. It’s New Year’s Eve, so I’m off to the Outrim oval to play some rock and roll with my son Sean and my old mate Gavin. Maybe I’ll tell you how it went tomorrow.
Cheers.
and it didn’t go that well.
Doctor’s observations (I paraphrase):
- the new, oddly placed bald patch on the side of my head is caused by stress. When she heard I was a teacher at the local high school she just smiled and said that that probably explained everything. It may grow back. I keep sneaking into the bathroom and looking in the mirror, trying to decide if it is getting bigger. I think it is.
- I am hypertensive (a hundred and a fair bit over something in the higher nineties), probably caused by stress (and obesity – though she didn’t comment on my weight). If my blood pressure doesn’t drop soon I will be on medication. As she put it, if my BP is like that on holidays …
- my drinking is outside of the national guidelines (presumably as a result of my stressed condition – or am I making excuses?). As she said, “Oh, we’d better add a liver function test”.
- my deafness is caused by a huge compacted blockage of wax, somewhat as if somebody had jammed a partly chewed toffee into my inner ear.
- my insomnia is caused by stress and she thinks pills may be necessary.
I’ve checked today and the friendly net calculator says that I am well obese (BMI of 32). My aim is to lose enough weight to be overweight – ironic really – about seven kilos.
I had a quite extensive series of blood tests this morning (we filled about eight tubes).
Aim for January: stay largely off the piss, keep with the jogging, eat less, lose enough weight to start next year just plain old fat.
Yes, exciting isn’t it. Georgia and I are having rice and vegetables. It goes like this:
- Fry half an onion in a little olive oil
- add half a vege stock cube, some cumin and tumeric
- add and stir vegetables (bok choi, carrot, mushrooms, celery, chillies, whatever)
- add about a cup of rice and about two cups of water
- simmer until the rice is cooked
- serve in two bowls with soy sauce and chopsticks
I’m looking forward to it.
Hello World -
I’m hopefully posting on a WordPress blog on my new website. The last site that I was running has lapsed and I thought that it would be a good exercise to build a new one as I am enrolled in an IT degree and I will likely want a testbed for a few ideas. In particular I have been playing with MySQL a little and it seemed like a good idea to get my head around installing WordPress. I had been using FlatPress exactly because it didn’t involve running a database on the server but now that I’m a student of IT I shouldn’t be so unadventurous. I must say, though, I found FlatPress a breeze to use and it was saving me about seven US dollars a year because my host (NearlyFree) charges 2c a day for MySQL.
I expect that I will continue to use this blog as a public diary, especially posting any music related activities, but not neglecting to share the trivia that I doubt anybody really wants to hear.
Cheers.
